The holiday season is just around the corner, and with it comes the opportunity to give as much as receive. One great holiday tradition your family could start this year is the joy of donating to foster children in need. Have each of your family members pick out a small donation gift for children living in foster care. The donation ideas don’t need to be large and could cost as little as $5 each.
While that may not seem like much to you, every small act of kindness is overwhelmingly large to children in need. Not sure what to get the children living in foster care? Here are a few great ideas – all of which cost $5 or less!
1: Coloring Books
For $5 you could donate five coloring books to the foster children in your local area. That means five children will have an artistic outlet to help them cope and emotionally heal from the reasons they are in foster care in the first place.
During back-to-school or the holidays, you can often find notebooks for 50 cents each. Five dollars could then purchase ten notebooks for young children to practice their writing in and older children to journal their feelings!
Play-doh inspires imagination in children of all ages, and it simultaneously improves on hand-eye coordination, as well as fine motor skills. A five dollar bill can purchase a pack of anywhere between six and eighteen play-doh containers, depending on where you shop.
4: Bath Sponges
While you may not think bath sponges are a big deal, the kids living in foster care would love to have one of their own. You can find them for a quarter around the holiday season. This means for just $5 you could buy as many as 20 bath sponges! That’s a huge contribution for such a small amount of money!
