Foster families are provided with monetary support to help with the day to day needs of children, but often there isn’t enough left over for anything extra. Children in foster care especially feel this want around the holidays. Our goal with all of our foster children and families is to give our children the best opportunities to grow, learn, and experience the joys of childhood, and part of this is making sure they receive and participate in holiday celebrations. Holiday celebrations help them feel a sense of normalcy and are often a bright place in the year for them as they should be to any child.
By donating gift cards, foster families are able to tailor the gifts to the specific children in their care. It allows foster families to cater to their foster children’s unique preferences, interests, and personalities. Store gift cards allow them to shop for the children in their care, or even to take their children shopping themselves. Other gift card ideas offer families a way to provide unique opportunities and create fun memories with these kids. Gift card ideas include restaurants, movie theaters, zoos, museums, or activities such as miniature golf. Donations of memberships to places are also highly appreciated. These could be memberships to gyms, fitness centers, or pools.
